Fraud safety

Check the seller before trusting the price.

Ghost brokers sell fake, altered or quickly cancelled motor policies. Young drivers are often targeted through social media and messaging apps.

Five checks before paying

  1. Open the FCA Firm Checker yourself—do not use a link supplied only in a message.
  2. Match the phone number, email and website to the regulator’s record.
  3. Call the firm using independently verified contact details if anything differs.
  4. Pay attention to requests for bank transfer, cryptocurrency or payment to an individual.
  5. After purchase, confirm the details are accurate and check the vehicle appears insured.

Warning signs

  • The offer is available only through WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Telegram or another messaging account.
  • The price is dramatically below every established insurer or broker.
  • The seller suggests changing the address, occupation, mileage, main driver or claims history.
  • The contact information does not match the FCA record.
  • You are pressured to pay immediately or discouraged from calling the insurer.

If cover may be fake

Do not continue driving on the assumption that a document proves cover. Contact the named insurer through verified details, check the Motor Insurance Database and follow the FCA’s reporting guidance.

Young Driver Club never sells cover or asks for quote details.
